Are you looking for the best elementary school in
Muñoz? Dep.Ed-CLSU Elementary (Lab) School is the answer! You wanna a prove? Keep
reading, ok?!
Dep.Ed-CLSU
Elementary (Lab) School is my receiving school. When you are in your first
step, I bet you will feel cozy because of the nature that shown to you, as a
picture below:
Most
of the students here are the children of the staff and employess of the
university. Then the title Labschool means that the school is also a laboratory
to observe classes and commonly used by the students of BEEd (Bachelor of Education) to do actual teaching
before they are sent out for their off campus teaching.
Before
we’re going to describe more about this school, I want to tell you that
everytime I heard “Labschool”, my mind will going to Elementary Labschool of
UPI. The university where I studied, Indonesia University of Education (UPI)
and CLSU have the school inside the campus. It’s from kindergarden level till
senior high school. The location of the schools are near to each other. Its
good to know that UPI and CLSU have a similarity in this case.
Now,
im going to tell you a brief history of the school..
Through
the memorandum between Bureu of Publc School (BPS) and Central Luzon State
University (CLSU), a school named BPS-CLSU Elementary (Lab) School was
established on July 13, 1970 or now its known as Dep.Ed-CLSU Elementary (Lab)
School. Under the contract between BPS and CLSU, the school would be supervised
and administrated by the Schools Division Superintendent by Nueva Ecija besides
CLSU would provide all the facilities and equipment that needed by the school.
The
class were only for grade 1 until 4 nor 5 and 6. Beside that, the school was
started with two teacher from Bagong Sikat Elementary School and the other two
peace corps volunteers which were assigned to teach English and Mathematics.
Until in 1972, the grade 5 class was organized and became a complete
elementary.

ACADEMIC
SUPPORT SYSTEM
Classroom-Based Strategies
In
grade 1 SSES, the facilities that’s provided by the school are a whiteboard, a
projector, speaker, 6 electric fans, a dispenser, bookshelf, and there’s a
space to keep learning material.
The
teacher monitor her students by giving written assessment. Its to test if they
understand the lesson for the day. Then, the teacher record their scores from
file folder; Each students have a portfolio ( file folder ) to put their
assignments. From that, the teacher can
evaluate either the students are progressing or they need remediations.
School-Based Strategies
There’s
workshop for teacher to enhance their competences in teaching process. Its
named is ELLN Digital Course. ELLN stands for Early Learning Literacy and
Numeracy. The workshop is held once in a
month.
The
speaker is also the teachers in that school, they’re Maam Elvie and Maam
Analyn. The workshop only for the teachers from kindergarden and grade 1 until
3. I ever attended the workshop as well. As what I got, they discussed about
the strategy and sharing their ways in teaching. The topic that’re discussed:
what the teachers do when the pupils keep silence? Do the teachers give their
students an opportunity to learn literation course? And so on.
Technology-assisted strategies:
The
teachers use a microphone when they’re delivering the lesson. It’s such a good
thing and help the students to catch the lesson well.
Beside
that, there’re a projector and laptop to assist learning activity. The
powerpoint that’s made by the teacher was eyecatching so it caught the
student’s attention, I guess.
TEACHING SYSTEM
'Learning
day in this school is from Monday until Friday. The students should come at
7.20 a.m and attend the flag raising ceremony EVERY MORNING until 7.30 a.m in
the field. And then there’s 10 minutes until 7.40 a.m for the teachers
preparation. So the lesson will start at 7.40 a.m. For dismissal time, regular
class will dismiss at 2.30 pm but SSES class is at 5 pm.
REGULAR? SSES? You might asked that in your mind. So keep reading to know the answer!
There’re
10 subjects; include recees/snack time and wins time in grade 1-SSES. It’s a
big responsibility for the students, teacher, and parents as well to make the
students still feeling enjoy during learning process. Because there’re a lot of
subjects, so they use a big “bag” everyday; I don’t know whats the name of this
bag hehe.
In
this school, there are 2 kinds of classes, SSES and regular, as I’d said
before. SSES stands for Special Science Elementary School and it’s just began
for 2 years (established in 2018). In SSES class, it contains of less than 35
students.
For
additional information, in grade one and two, there’re 3 classes. 1 class for
SSES, 2 classes for regular. In grade three until six, there’re only 2 regular
classes each, no SSES class.
I’ve
to say that SSES students are the selected ones. So after they graduated from
kindergarten, they should join a test selection to know where they’re going to be
in; regular or SSES. We can say that their IQ and self - competence is more
than the regular one. Also they can speak English. It means they’re special and
the chosen ones.
Ah
yes, every class (SSES and regular) has a special desk for the adviser at the
back of the class. So the adviser (the main teacher) always stays in the class
with the students.
MATERIALS AND OTHER LEARNING SOURCES
Students can borrow the books and used the internet access to find some materials in LRC (Learning Resources Science) room
Inside
LRS room, there’re a guidance room to counsel the students who needed a help
and a clinic room as well. But sorry, I didn’t take a picture inside the room
Besides that, there’s a room named Math and Science room.
As
you can see from the pictures, there’re a lot of learning materials that’s
support the learning activities. And the eye catching spot is the wall, there’re
many formulas of mathematics and science so that the students can be easily catch
the topic
After that, the students can use gym and the field for having sport session. As I could see, they used it for playing soccer, badminton, table tennis, etc. The place is not that huge but it’s enough yet for them.
MEASUREMENT AND EVALUATION SYSTEM
For
SSES class, they have standard indicator. The scale is from 1-100. The teacher gives
weekly test, unit test, and periodical test to assess the students. After the
test paper is being checked and recorded, the teacher will ask the students to show
it to their parents and ask them to sign it. This way is to follow up the
difficulty of students in the test.
Parents can also ask the teacher about their children’s performance, if there are the things that needed to be addressed, the teacher will call them and have a dialogue.
When do the teachers give a report card to the parents?
All
the teachers give a report card every quarter ( once in 3 months ). So the
parents can know their children’s grade in every subject.

TEACHING PLAN
Before
teaching the students, all the teachers have to make a lesson plan. So did I. lesson
plan is the quidance and the way to be a professional teacher. So that I made a
detailed lesson plan for English subject. Yes, I taught English subject in
grade 1-SSES. A quiet challenging!!
Before I made the lesson plan, my cooperating teacher (CT) showed me her lesson plan. But it’s a semi detailed lesson plan.
That’s
all about school general information. Hope it may help you if you’re going to
teach in this school.
Best
Regards,
Deawishal
