The wait is over, after
making my lesson plan its time for me to teach the students!! I was so excited
at that time but still, my heart was beating so fast than usual. My feeling was
mixep up. Happy, excited, and nervous as well eventhough i was accustomed
teaching primary students in Indonesia.
So now let's discuss
more future information about my teaching practice experience in my final demonstration.
You may see the lesson plan in the link below:
PROCEDURE OF TEACHING
I'd told you in my previous
post that there're 3 steps in teaching procedures: preparation, main activity (
development activities ) and closure.
Preparation
-
Performing routine activities
The first thing
that i did was greeting the students with powerfull energy hoho. It seems
important for me because it would effect to their attention in the next step.
Ah yes, when i greet them, they would stand up and said "good morning maam
deaw, good morning classmates. Its nice to see you today". Before they sat
down, i asked the chair of the class to lead us pray. Then, we sang 'sit down'
song while dancing together. I went around the class and make sure all the
students did it.
After that, i
asked them to sit down properly and checking their attendance to each group.
For your information, the layout of the class was arranged into groups based on
the line they're sat in. If someone was absence, i asked the reason of her/his
absence to the rest of the students. Those activities were named as performing
routine activities as i had explained in my lesson plan before.
-
Drill
Then, it's time
to drill them! I had made flashcards as you can see from the picture below
There’re some regulations for making the flashcards. The size is a half of bond paper (A4), use a border, the colour of the font should be black only, use the right capitalization.
I gave them the
direction for what would they do. (Look at the dialogue in teacher's activity
on my lesson plan, alright?:) ) First, i asked to the individual to read the
word and guess the pattern of that word.
When she/he answered it correctly, they got a star in their reward card
And then, i asked to each group with the same directions (read and guess the pattern). When i was done, i gave them all the stars.
- Review
After drilling, its
time to review the last topic; find CVC, CVV, VVC pattern in a sentence.
I put 5 sentences in cartonila paper as you can see
Its individual
activity, actually. Almost all the students raised their hands up. But i just
chose the one who sat down properly and not shouting; discipline is the key!!!
So the student came
forward to the class. After one number was answered by her/him, we read the
sentence and checked the answer together. If it's correct, the student who
answered it got some stars and dont forget to ask the rest of students to clap
their hands as the appreciation as well.
- Motivation
And
then, i was going to give a motivation by group activity! I gave an envelope to
each group. It consisted of jumble letters and the students
should arrange it became a sentence based on the picture
Then I asked one of each group to come to the front of class and checked the answer. 5 stars for the ones who answered correctly, 1 mistake got 4 stars, 2 mistakes got 3 stars, and so on.
After checking
that, the students read the sentences on my Power-Point slides(the correct
anwers of previous task)
Then, I gave a
direction, for example “raise your pencil!” to all the students. They raised
their pencil and I asked them again, “why do you raise your pencil?” and most
of the students said, “because you ask us”. Then I made it clear with saying,
“yes that’s right. I asked you to raise the pencil so it means I give a command
or direction to you. Is it right, class?”
From this, they
had known that the lesson would they learn; following and giving
commands/directions.
I could say that
giving motivation is like giving them an aperception (stimulus)
Main
Activity ( Development Activities)
Started with presentation
by the teacher; me. I asked them to read the sentences in my power point slide
together and then they should follow the commands that I gave (based on the
sentences that’re shown)
In skill
development, I dug their critical thinking! Why is it important? Because the
students can have their own idea and share it with other students then discuss
together!
So I brought 4
things to the front of the class and asked 5 students to come over. They would
follow the commands that I gave.
The next step is
about generalization! I asked them to make a conclusion for what we’d learnt
and then i gave the reinforcement as well. Before giving them assignment, I
asked them to play a game. If you want to know the rules of the games, please
look at my lesson plan okayJ
have a nice try hoho xx
To assess the
students, I gave them evaluation and assignment paper.
You may asking
in your mind: What’s the difference between evaluation and assignment actually?
So what I got from my CT, she said that evaluation should be done at that time
but assignment can be as their homework.
MANAGING TIME
AND ACTIVITIES
I
will share you my way to manage the time and the activities as well. Keep
reading !
In my opinion,
all teachers should have a time management skill. It’s very important because
it will help me; as a student-teacher to prioritize the activities and help me
optimizing learning opportunities for students. Because I was using Student
Centered Approachment, so I gave more time for students’ activities.
Predict the
allocation time for each steps is the key. In 80 minutes, all the objectives (goals)
should be achived by them. I’d discussion before with my CT about this and here
we’re ! :
- Preparation
-
Performing routine activities : 3
minutes
-
Drill : 5 minutes
-
Review : 5 minutes
-
Motivation : 15 minutes
- Main
activity ( development activities )
-
Presentation : 5 minutes
-
Skill development : 15 minutes
- Closure
-
Generalization : 2 minutes
-
Application : 15 minutes
-
Evaluation + assignment : 15 minutes
I just delivered
(presentate) the topic in 5 minutes. It’s enough for me because I let the
students to gain the knowledge by their self and as their teacher I just guided
them to achieve that.
To make sure if they really understand about the
lesson, usually I walked around the class to check their progress and approach
them then asked whether they’ve a problem. If yes, I guided them and let them
find their own answer. If they could do it, I gave stars for them and saying a
positive feedback like “You’re a great student. Keep it up” and did highfive!
I often used a group activity when teaching them. it’s quiet effective so the students could share their knowledge to the others and built their friendliness.
PROBLEM
SOLVING
As the teachers,
we ever found unpredict problem in the class. Don’t be afraid of that! Because
problem is a chance for you to do your best. And the best way to “escape” from
your problems is to SOLVE them. let’s be a problem solverJ so now I’m going to share you about the
problems and solustions as well in teaching practice
PROBLEM VS SOLUTIONS
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
The teacher
should manifest understanding of individual and group motivation to create a
learning environment be in positive vibes, active engagement, etc so that the
objectives could be achieved by them.
I’ll share to you how I manage the class in my own style. Click the link below:
My lovely students |
Overall Impression in Teaching Grade 1 SSES
During my days teaching
in that class, I felt so enjoy and I could still handle the class. I also
didn’t face any difficulties in teaching them. We could still communicate in
English because most of them are fluent in English eventhough they’re still
speaking tagalog. Days by days being there, I just realized that I felt in love
too hard with them until I couldn’t leave them easily.
On September 10th
was my final demonstration and it meant that it’s my last day in Dep.Ed. we
took a photo together and had a simple farewell party. I received many love
cards and gift from the students. When I’d my speech in front of them, I
couldn’t hold my tears. After that they’re coming to me and hug me while crying
so hard. How lucky I am to know them, the most sweetness students and meet maam
Elvie also Angie.
Maam Elvie-Me-Angie |
Maam Elvie is one of the
favorite teacher in that school. It’s such an honour for me to be her students
teacher. Maam Elvie helped me a lot during my days in the school, started from
teaching assistant, teaching practicum, passed my initial visit and observation
until my final demonstration on September 10th. Without her
guidance, I couldn’t be like this. Ah yes, our habbit when we’re in a free time
was having a short discussion about education and life as well. Let me say that
she is like my second maam in Philippine. Beside Maam Elvie, there’s Angie who
helped me a lot. She is a student in Pre-School major and having teaching
practicum as well. I still remember when I was preparing my initial visit and
observation, Angie helped me in doing my material and so that Maam Elvie. At
that day, we’re going home late maybe around 6 pm. Their sacrifice is so mean
to me until I could pass my final demonstration with a great score. Saying
thank you is just not enough to replace their kindness.
It’s nice to
share my classroom management to you, dear my readers! if you have any problems, please tell
me in the comment section below and have some discussion of it.
Best regards,
Deawishal W
